This policy explains what E-commerce Index collects, why we collect it and the choices available to visitors and store owners.

Effective and last updated · 14 July 2026
The short version

Our current index uses public website signals. We do not collect a store’s customer lists, orders or private analytics unless an authorized owner deliberately connects a future verification feature.

1. Scope

This policy applies to the E-commerce Index website, its ranking pages, site submission tools and related services operated by Novator Technologies (SMC-Private) Limited (“E-commerce Index”, “we”, “us”). It does not govern the independent stores we index or websites we link to.

2. Information we collect

Public website information

We observe information a normal visitor or automated browser can access, such as domain names, page responses, HTTPS availability, performance indicators, commerce technology signals, public contact details, categories and other publicly presented content.

Information you provide

If you submit, claim or correct a site, we may receive your name, business contact details, domain, role, supporting evidence and message. If owner verification is introduced, we will explain the requested permissions before connection and collect only the authorized data needed for the stated feature.

Service and device information

Our hosting providers may process standard request information such as IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamps, security events and diagnostic logs. We may use privacy-conscious aggregate analytics to understand service reliability and usage.

3. How we use information

  • Build, refresh and explain the index and its rankings.
  • Review submissions, ownership claims, corrections and removal requests.
  • Operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the service.
  • Prevent abuse, fraud and attempts to manipulate scores.
  • Communicate about a request or material service change.
  • Meet legal obligations and protect rights and safety.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use indexed stores’ customer data to rank them.

4. Sharing and retention

We may share limited information with infrastructure, security and analytics providers acting for us; with professional advisers; during a corporate transaction; or where required by law. Public index information may be displayed to service visitors.

We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes above, including maintaining ranking history, resolving disputes, preventing abuse and meeting legal requirements. Security logs are generally kept for shorter operational periods, subject to provider settings and legitimate investigation needs.

Our providers may process information outside Pakistan. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

5. Your choices and rights

Depending on applicable law, you may ask to access, correct or delete personal information associated with you, object to or restrict some processing, or withdraw consent where consent is the basis. A store owner may also request a factual correction or review of an indexed profile.

We may need to verify identity or authority before acting. Public facts and records necessary for integrity, security or legal compliance may be retained where permitted.

E-commerce Index is intended for business and general audiences, not children under 13, and we do not knowingly seek children’s personal information.

6. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the product develops. We will change the date above and provide additional notice when a change is material.

Privacy, correction and removal requests can be sent to hello@ecindex.org. Please identify the relevant domain and the nature of your request.
